Illes Medes

Hemos estado en las Illes Medes 🌊, para comprender el funcionamiento de una Reserva Marina, la cual recibe una especial protección medioambiental.

⚓️ Las reservas marinas intentan preservar ciertas zonas de especial interés biológico.🐠

⚓️ Desde 1990, el archipiélago está protegido para la conservación de la flora y fauna del fondo marino; gracias a esta protección se ha posibilitado desde entonces una recuperación espectacular de la riqueza de su medio acuático. 🐟

⚓️En 2010 fue declarado Parque Natural Nacional Protegido; su ecosistema ha sido clasificado como la mejor Reserva Marina del Mediterráneo Occidental. 🔝

⚓️ El fondo marino de les Illes Medes es el que le da un valor excepcional y las convierte en un lugar único en el Mediterráneo, muy apreciado por los submarinistas de todo el mundo. 🧜🏼‍♀️

We have been to the Illes Medes 🌊, to understand the operation of a Marine Reserve, which receives special environmental protection.

⚓️ Marine reserves try to preserve certain areas of special biological interest. 🐟

⚓️ Since 1990, the archipelago has been protected for the conservation of the flora and fauna of the seabed;  Thanks to this protection, a spectacular recovery of the richness of its aquatic environment has been possible since then. 🐠

⚓️ In 2010 it was declared a National Protected Natural Park;  its ecosystem has been classified as the best Marine Reserve in the Western Mediterranean. 🔝

Caretta Turtle Nest

Hoy hemos realizado una actividad para detectar un nido de Tortuga.

Reconocer su rastro, comunicar el protocolo a seguir y enseñar el método científico que se lleva a cabo en el nido.

✅️ Debido al Cambio Climático la Tortuga Caretta Caretta está anidando desde hace unos pocos años en las playas de Cataluña y Valencia principalmente  y es necesario que sepamos cómo actuar en el caso de reconocer un nido.

➡️ En estos meses los nidos comienzan a eclosionar. Si la ves, es muy importante seguir un protocolo muy simple, te lo cuento:

☎️ Si ves un neonato o el rastro que deja, llama al 112.

⛔️ ¡No la toques, ni la retengas!, Su contacto está prohibido por las autoridades.No la alumbres ni hagas fotos con flash, la luz desvia a las tortugas de su ruta al mar.

No borres los rastros, evita pisarlos, esos rastros se precisan para hallar el nido. Mira por donde pisas, por si hay otro neonato a tu alrededor.

Desde hace muy pocos años, la Tortuga Boba (Caretta Caretta) anida en nuestras playas.

En estos meses los nidos comienzan a eclosionar. Si la ves, es muy importante seguir un protocolo muy simple, te lo cuento:

Paddle Surf

Hoy hemos realizado una salida en paddle surf  con recogida de residuos y después hemos observado los microplásticos con el microscopio.

Cada salida al mar es una pequeña dosis de realidad, hemos convertido el mar en un auténtico vertedero, es desesperanzador todo los residuos que encontramos…

¿Porqué nos hacemos esto? ¿Porqué les hacemos esto al resto de especies?

Each outing to the sea is a small dose of reality, we have turned the sea into a real dump, all the waste we find is hopeless…

No puedo estar más orgullosa de que la entrada del ICM-CSIC esté decorada con murales de mujeres científicas.

No es posible generar un mundo más apacible si la mitad de una sociedad, continúa en la oscuridad, relegada al anonimato.

La Vida siempre busca el equilibrio y no es posible lograrlo sin la energía femenina, que a su vez, es la creadora de Vida.

Pero hasta aquí hemos llegado, porque somos Imparables, somos Poderosas, somos Invencibles.

I could not be more proud that the ICM-CSIC entrance is decorated with murals of women scientists.

It is not possible to generate a more peaceful world if half of a society continues in the dark, relegated to anonymity.

Environmental Education

¿Podemos revertir la situación?…lo que si tengo claro es que queda mucho camino por recorrer y que solo lo lograremos con un sentimiento de unidad y sobretodo de educación, empatía y compasión.

Hasta que no logremos conectar nuestra esencia con la naturaleza.

Nos queda camino, sigamos en ello.

Ecosnorkel

Ayer realizamos una salida de ecosnorkel (snorkel, pero con recogida de residuos en el mar) y recogimos 7 kg. de residuos en muy poco tiempo. Cada día, realizando actividades, me alucina más la poca consciencia que existe en la sociedad en relación a la conservación del medio ambiente y cómo lo estamos dañando. El mar no es un vertedero, es una fuente de vida y la precisamos enormemente. Es hora de realizar un cambio real.

Yesterday we went ecosnorkeling (snorkeling, but with waste collection in the sea) and we collected 7 kg. waste in a very short time. Every day, carrying out activities, I am more amazed at the little awareness that exists in society in relation to the conservation of the environment and how we are damaging it. The sea is not a dump, it is a source of life and we greatly need it. It’s time to make a real change.

Stingrays / Mantarrayas

 

The stingray have a special skin. It is a membrane that covers and protects them from the environment. It is believed that contact with humans impinges int the mucous layer.

They are the fish with larger brains, and at the same time, they are charismatic and gentle animals.
They are fish like salmon and trout, despite being different from them in a matter of appearance, in fact, are related to sharks because both belong to the Elasmobranchii subclass and are characterized by having a skeleton made of cartilage instead of bone.

Las mantarraya poseen una piel muy especial. Se trata de una membrana que las recubre y las protege del entorno. Se cree que el contacto con los seres humanos afecta esta capa mucosa.

Son los peces con los cerebros más grandes, y al mismo tiempo, son animales carismáticos y apacibles.
son peces como los salmones y las truchas, pese a ser diferentes de ellos en cuestión de aspecto, De hecho, están emparentadas con los tiburones pues ambos pertenecen a la subclase Elasmobranchii y se caracterizan por poseer un esqueleto compuesto por cartílago en vez de huesos.

Están desprovistas del aguijón venenoso que muchos de sus parientes sí poseen, y han mostrado un comportamiento curioso ante la proximidad de los seres humanos.

Actualmente hay dos tipos de mantarrayas gigantes: la oceánicas llamadas “Manta birostris” más comúnmente vistas en Raja Ampat y Komodo National Park (Indonesia), y las de arrecife conocidas como “Manta Alfredi”, que son las que vemos normalmente en Nusa Penida.

Las mantarrayas realizan saltos acrobáticos en el agua. Los científicos no saben a ciencia cierta por qué, pero se sospecha que sea para atraer a las hembras, una forma de comunicación con sus semejantes o una vía para escapar de los grandes depredadores.

These animals can measure up to 9 meters in length and, if the human being does not intervene in their destiny, can live 40 to 50 years. Estos animales pueden medir hasta 9 mts de longitud y, si el ser humano no interviene en su destino, pueden llegar a vivir entre 40 a 50 años. El alimento preferido de las mantas es el plancton, Consumen así alrededor de 60 libras de plancton al día y pequeños pececillos que viven en las inmediaciones, por esta razón se la ve nadar con la boca abierta y cerca de la superficie.

Cabe destacar algo muy importante: su diferencia con las rayas, que son bien diferentes a las mantarayas. Las rayas poseen largos y afilados espolones en su cola y con ella, fácilmente podrían atravesar a un hombre adulto.
